Backthird Audio exists to cherish music and the people who make it, and to make possible a community in which they can flourish.

We want to empower music-lovers to achieve success by providing education, experience, and work at a sustainable level of pay, and by helping connect them to one another. We're trying to understand what music's really for, and what it means to do it well - financially, artistically and relationally. We're hoping to make it work, to buy in without selling out - and, because people matter even more than music does, to bring as many people along with us as we can. Because even the best albums turn to dust sooner or later.

We're located in a really great recording studio in downtown Aurora, Illinois. About half of our day-to-day business is studio-based - including not only recording, but arranging, songwriting and licensing, and education. The other half of our work takes us out of the studio - our performance arm, Backthird Events, books DJs, musicians and our house band, the Total Package, for weddings all over Chicago and its suburbs. We're immersed in discovering how to do both these halves better and more often.

In any case, the goal is to serve artists by equipping them to serve others. We've really only just begun.
